This list is only albums; Johnston produced many successful singles as well. Some were stand-alone singles later added to albums, like Patti Page singing the haunting theme song to Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte. Although it wasn't used in the movie and there were a number of other versions, Page's track was the hit, making it to No. 8 on the pop charts in 1965. Others songs Johnston produced were album cuts released as singles. He produced hit singles for Marty Robbins, Johnny Cash, Simon & Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, and Flatt & Scruggs among many others.
Some of the singles Johnston produced for Johnny Cash, for example, included "Rosanna's Going Wild," "Folsom Prison Blues," "Daddy Sang Bass," "A Boy Named Sue," "What Is Truth?" "Sunday Morning Coming Down," and "Man in Black."
Another example is this sample list of singles he produced for Marty Robbins: "Tonight Carmen," "Love Is in the Air," "I Walk Alone," and "It's a Sin."
The following is the albums produced by Johnston or had one or more cuts produced by him as they were originally released. It doesn't include compilations, box sets, career overviews, reissues, etc. It's incomplete and not fully vetted.
In most cases Johnston's credit on this list is producer unless otherwise noted. In some case I also note the record company. This too is incomplete.

Obviously there's much need for further research on this discography. In many cases Johnston produced albums that weren't released (as is all too common in the industry) or only released on private labels. What follows are notes as to some people he worked with as a producer:
Key Francis
Chuck Keiper
Cheryl Lynn
Ryth-O-Matics
Lana Dee Phillips
D.J. Stone
Dave Golden
Kenn Morr Band, New Moon Rising
